The use of gold and rubies for this piece carry poetic meaning as well as a direct parallel to its namesake – since "Freyja's tears" became synonymous with gold at the time of Norse paganism. The belief that rubies hold the power of life due to their likeness to blood has appeared in a widespread set of cultures over time and geographical space. So what could represent a goddess who gives life and death better than a blood red ruby?
The necklace is equal parts dainty and soft with rounded organic shapes, equal parts untamed and rough around the edges with the natural characteristics of the raw ruby. Delicate and gentle yet wild, just like Mother Nature herself. The 18k gold brings out the multi-facetted vibrancy in the gemstone. The minimalist design is grounded in principles of simplicity and nature.
I designed this while thinking about enchanted woodlands, bewildering fairies and, whimsical stories about gods and goddesses mythical creatures only described in fables. The raw unpolished rubies I use are all natural and untreated. Every ruby is one of a kind but I make sure the ones I use stay consistent when it comes to their quality.
