The natural blue opal shimmer in tones of blue and green and evokes imagery of coral reefs, the reflections of the sun dancing in wavy patterns on the ocean floor and mesmerizing landscapes of kelp and fish.
Boulder opals are only found in Australia and are easily distinguished by their layer of solid brown ironstone on which the colorful opal layer forms. The thin layer of opal in boulder opals can display any color of the spectrum in a beautiful play of color. The ones I use in this design are green and blue with lots of different patterns. Each stone is one of a kind. Since opals are soft rocks I put extra effort into making these rings as durable as possible. I use thick silver metal to set the gemstones in secure bezel settings so that the surface of the opal won’t hit the floor if you drop the ring or hit it against something. The base of the ring is very thick and sturdy for an exclusive feel. I texturize one side of the shank to emulate the look of a wild bubbling wave. The asymmetrical design is meant to capture the movement of the wild ocean and rest on your finger in a beautiful angled way.
